PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Television Tower in Lithuania, (326.5 meters high) Onis Visa generating sets installation, model F 301 GX, (kVA 320.0 PRP) + Anti-Freeze System and a protection against the impact of ice stalactites that can eventually fall from the panoramic terrace positioned at 160 meters high in case of wind.

Located in the in Vilnius’ Northeastern district of Karoliniškės, it played a role during the events that took place in January 1991 as Lithuania fought for its independence from the Soviet Union.

It is a relevant architectural work, visitors can go up to the revolving observation platform and to the revolving cafeteria, which on clear days provides a spectacular view across the whole city, up to 50 km distance. You can even bungee jump from the tower bar at the height of 165 mt.

SPECIAL CONFIGURATION

The system that we have placed above the generating set model F 301 GX, (kVA 320.0 PRP) acts as a protection against the impact of ice stalactites that can eventually fall from the panoramic terrace positioned at 160 meters high in case of wind. An even small ice pyramid that falls from that height can reach the ground at a speed of over 100 km/h practically behaving like a bullet.

For this reason, a metal structure equipped with special springs has been placed on the roof of the machine, acting as an impact absorber.

Taking a quick review of the laws of physics, let us remember that the momentum is equivalent to the mass multiplied by the speed. We assume that during the impact with the roof protection structure, the momentum of the ice block is transmitted to the structure itself. The structure therefore begins to move after the impact and the underlying springs absorb the kinetic energy transforming it into potential elastic energy. At the end of the damper stroke, the speed of the structure is set to zero, only a small part of the initial momentum is transferred to the canopy.

The genset is equipped with an oversized baseframe fuel-tank of 800 lt complete with retention basin.
