SPECIAL APPLICATION FOR HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN

Visa SpA has been directly involved in the design and production of a sophisticated project destined to healthcare industry in the North Atlantic Sea area.

This equipment offers the most suitable stand-by operation of the application avoiding failures and losses. In case of any possible black-outs in fact, or any other events that can inhibit the ordinary operation of the electrical system, the right emergency power supply must be available within a few seconds, guaranteeing the maximum efficiency and reliability for all the structures involved.

Purpose

The project involves a reliable electricity supply system in emergency mode for a critical application in the healthcare sector. Because of that, the gensets are designed to ensure maximum safety to feed all the hospital electrical equipment and life support machines, from the emergency rooms and the operating blocks to the critical areas, from the intensive care units to diagnostics and many other important services, including elevators, fire-fighting systems and all those facilities for patients transport and treatments.

Generating sets supplied: 2 units of genset model BD 1000 U

Technical specifications:

The two units of generating sets are equipped with BAUDOUIN engine of 1000 kVA model 12M26G1100/5, with speed governor 1500 rpm, coupled with STAMFORD alternator model S6L1D-E, IP 23, AVR MX321 with PMG, with current transformer. 
The gensets are designed to operate in parallel between each other to grant stand-by power through a system which is provided directly by the customer. 
Both units are in open version. 

Exhaust silencer: the exhaust silencer of both gensets has been lowered to allow to fit in the reduced-size engine room in which the 2 units are placed. 

Special configuration: 

Being the area of the installation close to the sea, particularly influenced by the presence of a high level of salt which can jeopardize the conditions of the facility and affect various processes, a reliable solution is considered to be of critical importance. 

Cooling system:

A particular centralized cooling system has been designed, as per technical specifications of the plant.  
It consists of a double-stage heat exchanger. The primary circuit includes a standard plate heat exchanger and an air-to-water heat exchanger. 
The system is provided with a circulation pump that allows the coolant to circulate towards the second stage where there is a titanium plate heat exchanger to cool down the gensets using sea water. Because of salty water, the heat exchanger is made in Titanium to prevent corrosion. 

Conclusion

This solution, combined with high-quality components, such as engine and alternator, significantly increases the efficiency of the gensets guaranteeing the complete functionality of the healthcare structure.
